Neptune

It’s so quiet today out at sea,
Almost as if we were free.
I can still feel your salty lips on my skin
And there’s sand and sea shells tangled in your beard.

And I wish that I could come with you,
My blue maned God of the Deep.
Does your entourage of dolphins and of mermaids
Need another nymph to be complete?

I know you will shake the earth once again
And you will shake it all up.
Neptune, please be careful tonight,
Something just doesn’t feel right.

Remember, the night’s got many dangers in store
All the way from my bed to the shore.

No one would dare to speak up against you.
We’ve all got a family, we’ve all got to eat.
And yet we bring our nets home empty every day
And many of us drowned at sea.

And so they gather at dusk, downtown,
And drink till late into the night.
But their songs are not meant to please you.
And if you don’t watch your back they will surely bring you down.

And you will shake the earth once again,
And you will shake it, shake it all up.

Neptune, please be careful tonight,
Their chant is meant to snare you.

They’ve smashed up the altar of shingles and shells
And now they’re gonna come for you.

(And you’re gonna be so furious!)

And you will shake the earth again and again
And you will shake their foundations.

They want to escape your watery grip
Though they might have worshipped you for generations.

Neptune, please be careful tonight.
Neptune, please be careful tonight.
Neptune, Neptune, please be careful,
please be careful, please be careful tonight.
