The Devil's Storybook Experience (Album Release Party)
To celebrate the long awaited release of "The Devil's Storybook" you'll be treated to an audience with the Devil.
“I’m always in touch with my demons; you never know when their assistance is needed.” Efrat Cybulkiewicz
Get in touch with your inner demon - dressing up welcome but optional - and let yourself be thrilled! It’s time to celebrate the dark side, the shadow - so that the world might not need to become a stage for it. It’s also time to launch “The Devil’s Storybook”, which will be presented to you by the Devil herself.
You’re in for a unique experience: a musical journey through hell and back again. (Your ears will be in heaven, though.) Expect to be unsettled, seduced and moved. Somewhere between cabaret and a play you will meet the devil, wrapped up in music and a selection of entertaining poems from John Agard’s “From the Devil’s Pulpit”.
A sympathetic portrait of him, who is “part of the power which would/ the evil ever do/ And ever does the good.” (Goethe, Faust)
The devil doesn’t only have all the good tunes, but is also throwing in a complimentary drink, free fiendish snacks, a costume competition, and there’ll be a diabolic cocktail menu available at the bar. The devil is also planning a few surprises, but would not tell us at the time this was written.
A unique and energetic force in contemporary British poetry, John Agard's poems combine acute social observation, puckish wit and a riotous imagination to thrilling effect. In 2012, he was selected for the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
An archetypal figure whose lineage reaches back into antiquity. Mostly not as black as he’s/she’s painted.
“This thing of darkness I acknowledge mine.” - William Shakespeare
“We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell.” - Oscar Wilde
“Don’t you know there ain’t no devil, it’s just god when he’s drunk” - Tom Waits
