Another Night at the Circus

Another night,
Another night at the circus.
Another day, another show.
Another small, small town.
Another day in hotpants,
Tiptoe tiptoeing across the rope,
Smiling, oh so sweetly,
Everybody's waiting for my fall.

Another night, another night,

Another night at the circus.
Another glass of whiskey with my favorite dancing bear.
Another night, another night,
Another night at the circus.
I fall asleep sobbing, face down in her shaggy hair.

Another night,
Another night at the circus.
Another day of moving on to the next show.
Another day of candy floss for breakfast and for lunch.
Another day of smiling
As I help the big boys with the real dangerous stuff.
Smiling, always smiling,
Juggling and dancing on the rope.

Another night, another night,
Another night at the circus.
Another round of Prozac for me and my elephant friends.
Another night, another night,
Another night at the circus.
Can’t sleep, can’t sleep, can’t sleep, can’t sleep
Can’t find my hands.

And the tightrope is making me dizzy,
And the sawdust is making me sneeze,
And the music is puncturing my eardrums,
And the clowns are hiding in the caravan,
And the ringmaster’s making me, making me,
Making me, making me
Tell him he’s the best.

Another night, another night,
Another night at the circus.
Another night of hiding in the dark under my bed.
another night, another night,
Another night at the circus,
There must be a better way of earning my daily bread.

And the lions are making me deal in drugs,
And the tightrope is making me spin,
And the clowns are giving me the creeps,
And smiling is making cry cry cry,
And the ringmaster’s making me, making me
Making me making me
Fake it.

Another night, not another night at the circus.
